Windows Phone 8, Microsoft’s New Phone Release

An event in San Francisco marked Microsoft announcement of their latest mobile software, the Windows Phone 8 which Microsoft will be releasing in the fall, the new phone software will basically run on the same os as their pc and tablets, giving the company a greater leverage over a whole range of computing devices.

The software company, which is in close third in the said industry, is slowly gaining in popularity to Google Android and Apple’s Iphone. They said that with the new Windows Phone 8 will give consumers greater phone choices and applications and allow them to switch devices easily. The surface tablet is also released on Monday and solidifies Microsoft’s effort to join the mobile computing market and maybe seen to rival Apple’s ipad.

Various Nokia, Samsung, Huawei and HTC phones will carry the said phone and can generally do anything the iphone or android devices can do, voice commands, skype clals, NFC wirelesss transactions and even GPS capabilities. It is said that the voice commands can do much more than Siri, allowing for commands even for apps and not just the phone’s core system, now ain’t that a good option?

Metro Style

The phone also boasts of the “metro style” which are “touchable tiles” that represents apps, people and services that users use from day to day. The style is also set to be used on desktop or laptop pcs that will run Windows 8, indeed a promising proposition for many. Windows 8 is set to be launched around October of this year.

It’s All in The Apps

Well, truth be told, the Windows Phone has had very good reviews but the market is yet to get hooked, mainly because the os hold very little apps in comparison to Android or Iphone devices but with Windows 8 getting integrated into larger devices like your everyday pc or laptop, Microsoft hopes that developers will have an easier time developing apps for the Windows phone.

The Bad

Well, if you are currently holding on to a Windows Phone currently running on Windows 7.5, you will not be able to update your current phone to an Windows Phone 8 although Microsoft said that they will offer an update for that phone but some features of the new phone will not be available. This might slow down Windows 7.5 phone sales for the coming months, until the new device gets sold in the market.

So far Windows Phone has capture a measly 2% of the smartphone market, consumers opting to go for android or iphone devices but perhaps with this new release they can finally break into the market.
