Google Analytics: Making The Most Out of It

In a previous post, I’ve let you in on the intricacies that is Google Analytics, so now let's make the most out of it so you can be sure that your website is optimised completely for your users and of course for Google.

Keyword Reports

Spend just a few minutes into SEO and you will realise that the right keyword is the key (hence the name?) to gain entry into that somehow elusive top page rank on Google. You're in luck though, Google analytics has a keyword report tool that allows you to see the top keywords that drive traffic to you site. You can find it in the Traffic Sources Overview. List your top 10 keywords and optimise your site for it. How? You say. Well its easy use those keywords on your site, use them as anchor texts, topics of blog entries, as headers, title tags, alt tags for your images or even use the keywords as captions for your images, everything you can think of, just don’t overdo it. You will see an increase in traffic when you do this.

Growth Keywords

You can also sort your report by “Average time on site”. You will find a few low traffic keywords but visitors are spending more time on your site. These are your growth keywords. You can use the top growth keywords just like you will do on your high traffic keyword and you might find more traffic and more conversions as these visitors tend to linger on your site.

Referring Websites

From Google Analytics, you can also generate a report on which sites or social media refer traffic to your website the most and knowing which website refers the most traffic is vital in a sense that, you can’t spend all day marketing your website to everyone, so you should spend more time marketing on website that refer your most traffic. So if a particular website is sending you more traffic then you might want to direct your attention to these website, write more comments there, or if you did a guest blog, then you might want to write for them again. Or if your Facebook page is driving traffic to your site than your linkedIn account for example, then by all means do more facebook marketing.

Or maybe there’s website there you have no idea what, then you might want to contact the owner of the site and see if you can strike a deal with them so that you can capitalize on the traffic they are generating.

This part of Analytics allows you to see all this so you can be an efficient marketer and target your marketing where it matters more.

High Traffic Days

On Google analytics you will also see when you receive the most traffic, maybe you get more traffic during the weekends, some during the weekdays. When you know this, you can schedule you content to be published during this time, contests and promos can be launched on your high traffic days, you can also increase your marketing efforts during these days. In this way your new content or promo can have the highest exposure.

Make the Most out of Google Analytics

It is actually a great tool, for those who gain understanding on how to properly utilize it that is. Analytics allow website owners to analyze their website and optimize it for the greater good of the site. The data is there, just waiting to be read, but unless you take the time to read, review, analyze and take to heart those reports, it will be nothing more than a lot of data and graphs occupying space inside your site. Google Analytics gives you specific data so you can give your visitors what they are looking for when they are looking for it, giving you a quality website users want to come back to. Grab and take hold of what it has to offer
